Learn the art of natural building:
2009/2010 workshop schedule
The peasant built his house out of mud... And here, in every hovel in Egypt, was the answer to my problem. Here, for years, for centuries, the peasant had been wisely and quietly exploiting the obvious building materials...

Seven Generations Natural Builders (SGNB) is dedicated to teaching people how to house themselves. We teach cob, straw bale, and other natural building skills. We advocate building with local natural materials using methods that are ecologically sensitive, environmentally sound, and economically affordable. We believe it's important for new builders to learn a balance of natural building techniques.

Why is SGNB where new builders learn natural building?

  • Our emphasis is introduction to cob, straw bale, and natural building courses. SGNB is focused on teaching the new builder.

  • Our instructors teach and speak at events around the world such as The Solar Living Institute's 'SolFest' in California and 'Sustaining Regeneration Conference' conducted by the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust. They also serve as visiting instructors at other respected schools.

  • We offer refresher courses to our graduates at anytime for 50% off the regular price.

  • If you are not fully satisfied with your course we will refund your money.

A new builder will learn the basics of cob, straw bale, and other natural building techniques through our courses. We can provide the novice builder with the experience and confidence necessary to begin building their home. SGNB's Introduction to cob and natural Building course is geared to save you time and money by providing firsthand experience with a variety of materials and natural building techniques.

Our goal at SGNB is to provide the best learning environment in North America for the new builder to get started. Several schools offer advanced courses for seasoned builders and students seeking apprenticeship programs. Graduates of our courses will be ready for more advanced training, but our motivation is helping you with the first step.

If you're ready to get started, take a look at our course schedule. Don't let another year pass wishing you had taken that cob or straw bale workshop. Make this the year to learn them both and more with SGNB.
